I was thinking about this wording...feasting on the table God sets before us...it is such an easy phrase for people to quote, even myself, so we speak of feasting but there are two things we need to understand, (1) feasting means eating, (2) if God sets a table before us what is he setting? (answer, His Word)..Ladies and gentlemen, God has already set the table before us, the table has been set in different ways but, it has still been set. So whatever recipe fits your pallete, God has set a meal before you in the way that fits your taste just right, I am challenging myself to memorize chapters from God's word. I am talking about a whole chapter instead of just a verse. Oh, yeah right, like it's easy to do...but, you know, if I set my mind on eating off of God's table in the way that he has set for me, I CAN!
The Bible is full of testimonies of people who made it a good habit of memorizing huge portions of the Scriptures and when they find themselves faced with adversities, the Holy Spirit reminds them of the word of God, the meal that they ate maybe a day or two before, to draw strength from. Jesus when tempted, told old sluefoot satan, "man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that is brought forth from the mouth of God." So, I hope you will join me in eating off of God's table that He has set before us in this New Year of 2011. Just a reminder. Jesus said, all things will pass away, but HIS word will remain forever.
